We’ve recently received a number of emails from publishers asking how we feel about the placement google adsense.jpgof images near Google ad units. There’s been some confusion on this issue, and so we turned to our policy team to set the record straight.

Can I place small images next to my Google ads?

We ask that publishers not line up images and ads in a way that suggests a relationship between the images and the ads. If your visitors believe that the images and the ads are directly associated, or that the advertiser is offering the exact item found in the neighboring image, they may click the ad expecting to find something that isn’t actually being offered. That’s not a good experience for users or advertisers.

I got a phone call from my father the other day. "Oh," I thought immediately, "he’stxt.png probably calling to finally apologize for failing to attend that basketball game I played at in fourth grade." But no, I was once again wrong. He was calling to pitch his web startup.

They’re at the racquetball court, the grocery store, the venture capitalists’ offices — you can’t avoid this new crowd of so-called "Web 2.0" startups. And every time they meet you, if they’re not asking for angel funding, they’re asking for suggestions on how they should run their company.

When I first started out doing web design work I only focused on the design. I did not think ahead exec_wine.pnghow to prepare the site for promotion until I had finished the actual design. I think a lot of web designers still think and act this way…they build the site first then think about the marketing aspect later.

This is a big mistake!
