Okay so here’s the deal: not too long ago, Wikipedia had a page listing known websites with a PageRank of 10, and a large number of www.gifsites with PageRank 9. However it was decided that the page contradicted Wikipedia’s article policy and so was deleted. (Personally I found it a great resource, but their rules are there for a reason, I guess.) Google is not interested in allowing the public to know exactly how the PR is calculated since it is then easier to trick or cheat the search engine and since this would undermine its credibility. It does however appear that a variation over the basic formula is still used.

I received an RFP from a company that ought to know better that wanted to know how much I’d ascii.pngcharge to get their site 500 one-way Pagerank 2 or better links. Another company wanted to know how long it would take me to seed 1,000 blogs with a link to their site in the blog comment field. And another wanted to know how many links I could buy for their site for $25,000.
