The ongoing practice of phishing for personal information, especially financial details like credit card numbers, makes it a low risk/high reward endeavor for criminals. They pump out thousands or millions of emails, hope a few suckers pass along what they want, and use or sell the data.

Over the years Google’s content network has built up a bad rap in some circles. Advertisers were concerned about the proliferation of made-for-AdSense sites, a rise in click fraud, and a lack of detailed reporting options. In 2007 Google responded, introducing a series of enhancements designed to benefit the advertiser, consumer and publisher experiences.

Search Engine Land is reporting that in the coming weeks, according to Google, Google will drop the “Advertise on this site” link displayed next to AdSense ads. Using this link, advertisers were able to directly target a specific site. However, AdWords still has targeting by URL available for placement-targeted campaigns, as long as the webmaster offers these placements via their AdSense account (choose AdSense -> AdSense Setup -> Channels -> Show this channel to advertisers as an ad placement)… and I don’t see anything in this announcement saying Google plans on dropping that too, though I asked them just in case.

Google have just announced two main changes to the AdWords system: there will be a new ‘Quality Score’ column and a change to google_adwords.jpgthe Quality Score algorithm. The changes made are said to improve the algorithm for evaluating the landing page quality and incorporating landing page content retrieved by the AdWords system, in an effort to phase out advertisers trying to get cheap traffic to poorly designed landing pages.

SEARCH GIANT GOOGLE TUESDAY ISSUED a clarification of its Quality Score rankings, which are info.pngused to calculate an advertiser’s minimum bid. The guidelines, which were previously somewhat vague, now instruct advertisers on how to improve their scores.

Adwords is Google’s principal source of revenue, allowing advertisers to buy pay-per-click or impression-based advertising on Google and content sites affiliated with Google.
