There’s no such thing as the GoogleOS in reality - but despite that, it is one of the most talked
about Web products. People can’t stop discussing it - and even imagining screenshots for it! Seems like everyone expects Google to get into direct competition with Microsoft, by releasing an operating system. However Google refuses such claims and even makes fun of this kind of buzz. With the full release of MSN Live last month many new flaws have been found in MSN’s new ranking
algorithm. If you have been a long time reader of my blog you probably remember when I recommend using BlogSpot to spam MSN, and then just weeks later I showed you how one could take out the top 9 spots on MSN for just about any keyword.

Matt Cutts [Google God] has given strong hints that participating in controversial programs like
ReviewMe or PayPerPost, that pay bloggers for writing about advertiser’s product or services, may jeopardize the search engine rankings of your blog. This also applies to websites selling paid text links on their pages.

Google is making it easier for webmasters to make sure their articles get on Google News with their
newly-announced Sitemaps for Google News tool. Sitemaps for Google News is an XML-based, open source protocol that is supposed to allow for greater control over Google crawls as well as more useful data about what gets included and why.

At Ask.com, Steve Berkowitz didn’t have enough resources to take on Google. Now, at Microsoft, he
has plenty of money, but still has a lot of work to do. Berkowitz joined Microsoft in April, where he was given the task of helping build a cohesive ad-funded business around all of Microsoft’s disparate online businesses, from MSN to Windows Live.

I just received an email from Google about a new feature they have enabled on my account call Ad
Placements. It’s designed to help advertisers target a specific ad on your site. A check of my Google AdSense control panel shows I have a new Ad Placement check box under my custom channels.

Google Adsense Policies clearly states that “Clicks on Google ads must not result in a new browser
window being launched.” Adsense publishers are neither allowed to alter the HTML code nor can they give their visitors an option to open Google ads in a new browser window.
But according to a report published in The New York Times, a majority of web users are responding to banner ads indirectly - they avoid clicking the actual banner advertisement on the website but type the advertiser’s URL directly in their browser.
